Richard Shirbon
Richard ShirbonBSc Hons MRCPod. Podiatrist.
My name is Richard Shirbon, working background is extensive in care service. I have worked in care for over 20 years, within the NHS in various specialities as Health Care Assistant Respiratory, Orthopaedics, Renal services just to name a few.
I have worked in almost all aspects of support provision; domiciliary care, End of Life care with Marie Curie, dementia-focused care, day services for older people and I’m a qualified care service & business manager who is experienced in leading and managing care provision and have had my services audited by CQC and Local Council.
There are many highlights to my career so far, including managing ‘Stanley Burn Care Centre’, where the staff and I’s hard work and commitment gained ‘Excellent’ grading from the Care Quality Commission, 5* Kitchen from the Food Standards Agency, and the top banding from the Council quality inspections – all in one year! A truly great team. This then had me head hunted for a Regional manager role within the company I worked, but that wasn’t the path I wanted but also meant a lot that my management was held in such high regard..
My work at The Grange Centre, in Throckley I am also emencly proud of, working with an incredible team and an unforgettable and inspiring manager Michele Wright, the team and I supported elders in many activities, learning new skills and taking on challenges – truly amazing position to be in, that was called ‘work’.
I trained as a podiatrist for many reasons, the main reason is that I enjoy helping people and my progression into management so far had taken me away from the direct care I enjoy so much, most of all, I wanted to be in charge of the quality of the service that’s being provided, quality of service is extremely important to me.
Kathleen Okeefe
Kathleen OkeefeRGN DipHE, Foot Health Practitioner and Advanced Aesthetics Consultant and Practitioner
My name is Kathleen and I have worked within the care setting since the tender age of 17. Prior to my nurse training, I have worked in both residential and nursing settings providing care to adult patients.
Although I loved my role and found it very rewarding, I wanted to offer a more holistic approach to patient care therefore decided to become a registered nurse and commenced my training in 1997 and continue within this profession to current date. My background as a nurse has provided me with insight into aspects of caring for those with learning difficulties, children, and those with mental health challenges.
My career so far has provided me with the knowledge and expertise to practice in both the hospital and community settings and enables me to deliver an excellent standard of care to patients from all walks of life. Having dedicated my working life to acutely ill patients, I wanted to explore a different aspect of nursing and so embarked on my lifelong ambition to work in the aesthetics industry, I now co-own a successful medical aesthetics business called; ‘Medix Aesthetics’ with my sister Marie who is also a qualified Nurse.
Working alongside other Health Care professionals, I have extended my scope of practice & qualified as a Foot Health Practisioner my new role enables me to support the team in delivering foot care and also utilises my extensive nursing experience.
